‘Our National Health Stories’ is an exciting UK-wide arts initiative celebrating 75 years of the NHS. The project aims to paint a portrait of the NHS through the eyes of its people. The organisation’s essential and powerful impact through the eyes of those that make it! Those who know!
To open a window into the NHS through often unheard perspectives and experiences and to celebrate the often unseen.
We are looking for stories written by Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff that could go on to represent our region and be included in a national November celebration event, which will involve contributions from across 19 NHS Trusts.
Could you lend YOUR voice? Will you ‘put your pen to work’?
But where to start?
There is no right or wrong, it truly is about writing a story, experience, a reflection or encounter around your job, that you would like to offer.
It could be about your day-to-day, or about something that stands out to you.
You have up to 1000 words to play with. It could be written as poetry or prose. A thought or a letter. You can also submit a sound file recording of your text. Your piece can be as rough or as completed as you like (or have time for). It just has to be yours!
Try thinking around one of these prompts to get going.
- What would you tell your younger self about your job? And about this place? What do you want your older self to remember… and to take with them?
- What stories should not be left untold? That might be otherwise unseen? What happenings or observations should the world know?
- Tell us about when you have seen love in your workplace? What did it look like? Did you recognise it? Did anyone else?
Whatever your starting point, we want to hear your story, your voice!
The closing date for contributions is midday on Monday 11th September. Please email all contributions to [email protected]
All the work will be read by a panel, and the chosen contributions will go on to the national celebration.
Please include your name, job title and contact, for us to stay in touch.
To help you on your way, you can join in some taster session with our Writer in Residence, Laura Lindow. Read our Calling all Trust staff writers and storytellers article to find out more.
