Christmas is such a special time of year, but not everyone gets to spend it at home celebrating with family and friends.
Just imagine spending Christmas in hospital.
Every year, Newcastle Hospitals cares for almost 1,900 children over the festive period, sometimes this means children will spend their Christmas in one of our hospitals instead of at home.
Whilst we can’t change that, we can bring a little festive cheer and joy, helping children and their families feel the magic of Christmas, no matter where they are.

Donate to our Bring Colour to Christmas appeal
At Christmas we want every child to see the season in colour.
Newcastle Hospitals Charity provides festive decorations for wards, brass bands and carol singing and coordinates a Christmas gifts campaign to make sure no one is forgotten. We arrange for Santa Claus to join us at our Freeman and RVI Hospitals, to spread festive joy to our young patients.
- £5 can provide books for families to enjoy Christmas stories together.
- £25 can provide board games, toys, or craft sets—helping children and their families enjoy quality time together.
- £50 can fund everything a Play Specialist needs for two hours of imaginative play with a child on the ward.
Bring a smile to a child this Christmas
If you prefer to donate gifts, our Play Specialists and Ward Clerks have an Amazon wish list of suitable items, which will be delivered directly to us. Receiving donations in this way enables us to better match items to patients so everybody can benefit, helping to prevent duplication of items or receiving things that cannot be used.
