Supporters of Newcastle Hospitals Charity have enabled the purchase of a state-of-the-art robotics system at Newcastle Hospitals which is already benefiting patients.
The new robot will make Newcastle Hospitals one of the UK’s first major centres to offer both paediatric and adult robot assisted surgery.
A celebration and naming ceremony took place at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, with “R2-Drill2” being drawn as the winning name in a fun competition for the naming of the system.
Andrew Bowey, consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in spinal surgery at the RVI: “We are excited to share this new technology with the wider Newcastle Hospitals team and we have already seen engagement which is fantastic to see.
“The technology has the potential to transform and improve patient care. We really appreciate Newcastle Hospitals Charity’s commitment to innovation in our service.”
