Newcastle Hospitals staff and patients at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary welcomed the festive season this week with a sparkling illuminations event, organised and funded by Newcastle Hospitals Charity and supporters.
Taking place on Tuesday 30th November, staff and patients were treated to mince pies and coffees, before enjoying some classic festive songs from The Great North Children’s Hospital Singers – made up of staff from the Children’s Hospital, all decked in their finest Christmas Jumpers!
The event began in earnest with a welcome speech from Dame Jackie Daniel, who thanked everyone for attending, as well as all the departments and staff who worked so hard to put the event together.
She then welcomed VIP guests Evie Timmins (12) and Ariel Bingham (17) to join her to switch on the lights. Both girls are patients at the Great North Children’s Hospital, and were delighted to take part in the event. They were selected as they were both winners of the Great North Children’s Hospital Christmas Card competition – they’re both very talented!
Following the illumination of the huge Christmas Tree, as well as several RVI buildings and landmarks, guests relaxed with hot drinks and enjoyed more music from the Great North Children’s Hospital Singers, as well as 4th Dimension, another choir who kindly offered their festive services to the event.
Newcastle Hospitals Charity are working hard to make this special time of year even brighter for Newcastle Hospitals staff and patients, and seeing the hospitals lit with a warm glow is just one of the ways they’re making a difference this festive season. Find out more.
The Illuminations were organised and funded by Newcastle Hospitals Charity, with help from supporters Geoffrey Robinson Ltd, Medical Architecture, Robertson CE Limited, CAD 21 and Tolent.
