Fundraising
Can I still fundraise at the moment?
You can indeed! At the moment however, the priority is that you’re keeping safe. All fundraising activity must adhere to government guidelines around social distancing and events, but there are still many ways you can support us safely!
Registering your fundraising
How can I register my event?
Email us at [email protected] and a member of the team will be in touch shortly.
Can I organise a fundraising event for Newcastle Hospitals Charity and another charity jointly?
You can but it’s important to ensure that your supporters know that the money is being split, and between which charities.
If you want to set up an online fundraising page, please use Virgin Money Giving. This allows you to choose what percentage you want to donate to each charity. Please note that the other charities must be listed on Virgin Money Giving.
Fundraising online
How do I set up an online fundraising page?
It’s quick and easy to set up an online fundraising page and a simple way for people to friends and family to sponsor you!
Our preferred fundraising page is JustGiving. Simply head to their website and follow the instructions. Remember to choose Newcastle Hospitals Charity from the drop down menu when signing up.
Once you’ve set up your page, include a personal story to explain why you’re fundraising for our Charity.
If you have any problems setting up your page, please call 0191 213 7235 or by email [email protected].
How do I show offline donations on my page?
JustGiving has helpful instructions on adding offline donations to your page.
How do I get the funds from my page to you?
Any money donated through JustGiving and Virgin Money Giving is paid directly to the charity within three weeks. This is cost-effective for the charity and makes collecting sponsorship easier for you.
Do you receive all the money given through my online fundraising page?
Most online giving sites charge a small transaction fee from the Gift Aid they claim on behalf of the charity. This amounts to a very small percentage and using these sites is still a very cost-effective way for you to fundraise. If you wish to make a large donation, please contact our Charity Team who can advise the best way to do so. please call 0191 213 7235 or by email [email protected].
Fundraising offline
How do I fundraise offline?
Due to the current restrictions around social distancing, cash collections should not be happening. We’d encourage you to fundraise online instead.
Gift Aid
Can you claim Gift Aid on the money I have raised?
Donations from UK tax payers are worth an extra 25p for every £1 donated at no extra cost to you!
For us to be able to claim Gift Aid, you need to check that the sponsor or donator is a UK tax payer, record their home address, postcode, and donation amount, and make sure they tick the Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form or fundraising page.
Please note that we are unable to claim Gift Aid on ticket sales, raffle sales, corporate sponsorship, and sale of goods or auction proceeds. We also cannot claim Gift Aid on payments from companies.
What next?
Can you organise a cheque presentation for me?
Usually we would love to welcome you to the hospital for a cheque presentation, but due to COVID-19 and current guidelines in place we are currently unable to facilitate these visits. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a presentation in the future when it is safe to do so at [email protected]

Other support
Where can I get matched giving?
Many large commercial organisations are willing to ‘match’ contributions made by their employees who are either making donations to, or fundraising on behalf of, a registered charitable body, effectively doubling the donation. Check with your employer to see if they offer this facility.
When was the Charity established?
There is a long history of charitable support for the hospitals of Newcastle upon Tyne, setting a foundation for the outstanding quality of care we deliver today.
In 1886, John Fleming, a Newcastle Solicitor gave £25,000 to build a new hospital for sick children in memory of his wife, who had died in 1882.
The Fleming Memorial Hospital at Moor Edge was officially opened by Lord Armstrong on 26 September 1888. In 1988 the work of the hospital was transferred to the Fleming Wing of the Royal Victoria Infirmary and as the services and expertise became so specialist and expansive, the Great North Children’s Hospital was established.
The original Fleming Memorial Hospital building is now Peacock Hall, which was originally opened on 11 July 1906 by King Edward VII. Now home to our Newcastle Hospitals Charity the building is steeped in history which the Statue of Queen Victoria outside pays tribute to.
