A patient being treated for cancer at the Freeman Hospital has completed a 70-mile bike ride for Newcastle Hospitals Charity.
Stephen Graham has completed Route 72 from Carlisle to the Freeman’s Northern Centre for Cancer Care to celebrate his 40th birthday, raising more than £1,500.
Stephen was diagnosed with seminoma testicular germ cell cancer in 2017 and started intense chemotherapy. The cancer had been growing for four years before it was found and was caught just in time before it could have spread and become less treatable.
Thankfully Stephen has made a full recovery, but still attends the hospital for yearly tests. He said: “If it had not been for the treatment, care and attention, I may not be here to see 40-years-old.”
We’re in awe of Stephen and all of our fundraisers who take on a challenge to make a difference to the patients, staff and wider communities of Newcastle Hospitals.
