Funding for projects to support innovation and clinical research

Projects seeking support for innovation and clinical research projects will:

  • Show a clear and demonstrable benefit to NHS patients by translating ideas to improvements in clinical care and practice rather than be scientific or bench based.
  • Be proof of concept or ‘pump-priming’.
  • Demonstrate that there are no other sources of funding available from specific research-funding bodies/charities.
  • Ensure that if any revenue and equity is generated from research or projects, a fair proportion is negotiated for the charity in good faith when intellectual property is to be licensed or assigned by the Trust.

Publication costs

If research activities are funded by the charity then the costs of publication can be considered as part of the project as long as they are proportionate overall.

Examples of projects NHC can support
  • Clinical Fellowships
  • Structured programmes of clinical research
  • Medical equipment with the potential to further research equipment
  • Research delivery staff
  • Programmed activity (PA) time that is supported by the trust and provides dedicated time to focus on research and innovation
  • The costs of disseminating learning from research and or clinical practice and outcomes

Examples of projects NHC is unable to support
  • Purely scientific and/or bench-based medical research
  • Higher level qualifications such as PhDs or MDs
