The charity can fund a wide range of initiatives linked to our 3 core goals

As a registered charity regulated by charity law and by the Charity Commission, in practice this means that all funded projects must:
- Must be for public benefits and must align with the objects of Newcastle Hospitals Charity which are ‘for any charitable purposes relating to the National Health Service or to general specific purposes of the Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust’
- Directly benefit patients and their families or carers being treated at Newcastle Hospitals, or support the staff providing their care
- Address a need that is outside of the scope of NHS funding
- Be a project we are be proud to tell our donors about
- Be for an amount within the funds available to the charity, with a clear rationale for the selection of funds used
Items and projects funded by the charity must directly benefit patients and their families being treated at Newcastle Hospitals, or support the staff providing their care.
The charity can fund:
- Equipment (medical and non-medical) purchased via NHS procurement and authorised by the Capital Management Group (CMG) and Electrical and Medical Engineering Department (EME)
- Consumables and materials
- Refurbishment and capital (building)
- Non-permanent staff costs – for example, staff or agencies employing staff that support the delivery of a specific, time-defined project
- Service improvement initiatives
- Staff development initiatives not provided via the NHS or Newcastle Hospitals, that support the development of the service or the wider staff population
- Any other items that directly support patient care which are cannot be funded from other sources
- Translational research that directly benefits patients
The charity may be able to support a project with funding which is already available, in other cases a project will become part of a new fundraising programme to raise the funds needed.
