Before you get started
- How will you use the funds I raise?
Newcastle Hospitals Charity supports initiatives that help to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients, people and wider communities through compassionate and innovative healthcare, education and research.
Your fundraising will help us to fund projects that further enhance the quality of care provided at Newcastle Hospitals for our patients and their families; support the wellbeing and development of our staff; aid pioneering clinical research and engage our local communities.
You can find out more about how we spend funds and the impact they have.
- How can I get involved?
We have all sorts of events and activities for you to take part in. There are physical challenges like runs, hikes and swims. Or why not organise a bake sale, a golf day or get your whole school involved in a fundraising activity? There are so many ways you can get involved. Fundraising online
- How do I set up an online fundraising page?
It’s quick and easy to set up an online fundraising page and a simple way to get friends and family to sponsor you! Our preferred fundraising page is JustGiving. Simply head to their website and follow the guidance below:
• Log on to JustGiving to set up the page at www.justgiving.com/newcastleupontynenhs – please double check this is Newcastle Hospitals Charity (Reg. 1057213)
• Select ‘Fundraise for Us’ and create your page
• Personalise your page with your reasons for fundraising and pictures
• Use your full name if you can so that your friends can identify you
• Search for and select Newcastle Hospitals Charity as your charity. If you are fundraising for one of our main funds e.g. The Great North Children’s Hospital or The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, search for them and they will appear as a campaign run by Newcastle Hospitals Charity
• Let us know your postal address when prompted if you want us to keep in touch
If you need any help with setting up your page, please call 0191 213 7235 or email [email protected]
- How do I show offline donations on my page?
JustGiving has helpful instructions on adding offline donations to your page.
- How do I get the funds from my page to you?
Any money donated through JustGiving is paid directly to the charity within three weeks. This is cost-effective for the charity and makes collecting sponsorship easier for you.
- Do you receive all the money given through my online fundraising page?
Most online giving sites charge a small transaction fee from the Gift Aid they claim on behalf of the charity. This amounts to a very small percentage and using these sites is still a very cost-effective way for you to fundraise. If you wish to make a large donation, please contact our Charity Team who can advise the best way to do so. Please call 0191 213 7235 or by email [email protected]
Fundraising offline
- How do I fundraise offline?
You can organise a cash collection. Get in touch with our fundraising team on [email protected] to request branded collection tubs and download our sponsorship form so you can collect donations and Gift Aid declarations.
- Can you claim Gift Aid on the money I have raised?
Donations from UK tax payers are worth an extra 25p for every £1 donated at no extra cost to you!
For us to be able to claim Gift Aid, you need to check that the sponsor or donator is a UK taxpayer, record their home address, postcode, and donation amount, and make sure they tick the Gift Aid box on your sponsorship form or fundraising page.
Please note that we are unable to claim Gift Aid on ticket sales, raffle sales, corporate sponsorship, and sale of goods or auction proceeds. We also cannot claim Gift Aid on payments from companies.
- Where can I get matched giving?
Many large commercial organisations are willing to ‘match’ contributions made by their employees who are either making donations to, or fundraising on behalf of, a registered charitable body, effectively doubling the donation. Check with your employer to see if they offer this.
