A priority of Newcastle Hospitals Charity (NHC) is supporting the youngest patients under the care of Newcastle’s Great North Children’s Hospital (GNCH).
Via The Great North Children’s Hospital Foundation (GNCHF), NHC supports the many children and their families who come to the hospital for treatment and care, making their experience the best it possibly can be.

Recently, we have been able to support:
❤️ A Sensory projector on ward 10
We recently contributed £15,180.25 to fund a new sensory projector on ward 10 at GNCH, offering fun, engaging, and stimulating entertainment. Patients on Ward 10 often have sensory or physical needs, the projector encourages them to move and play to their own ability, whilst offering fun distractions. The projector can be adapted to each child, offering schools of fish to chase, dinosaur fossils to dig up, or rainbow stars that scatter underfoot.

❤️ Arts and Crafts on ward 7
Even the smallest projects within the hospital can make a big difference! We recently contributed £200.00 to ward 7 at the Children’s Hospital, where young patients undergo dialysis treatment – which can take three or four hours. To help calm and entertain children on this ward, we have funded arts and crafts, DVDs, board games, and jigsaws.

❤️ Chemo Ducks for children undergoing cancer care
We recently partnered with the Give a Duck Foundation, who create and distribute stuffed duck toys to children’s hospitals around the UK.
We have supported them with £4,500.00 for 120 Chemo Ducks and 60 Huggable Hopes for patients on the paediatric oncology ward at the Great North Children’s Hospital.
Chemo Duck is designed to support and comfort children going through cancer treatment, and is fitted with medical lines and ports to mirror those of the child. Huggable Hope is a duck for siblings of those in treatment, offering them some additional comfort at a very challenging time for the whole family.

❤️ Specialised equipment
Specialised equipment can make a child’s visit to hospital a much more pleasant experience for both the child, and the parent. We support items such as the Colourflash Paddle, which helps make eye exams easier and more fun for young patients. The Paddle lights up and makes noises to encourage the child to stay focused and still during the test, meaning more accurate results and less stress for all involved! It is also more inclusive for children with visual impairment.

Some brand new initiatives that we have been able to support have included:
❤️ £324.70 to supply drinking cups for young patients with feeding difficulties
❤️ £3,750.00 to supply Oximeters (to measure oxygen levels) for children with chronic respiratory disease and sleep apnoea
