Best Friends Emily Gee and Phoebe Ayling from Low Fell have raised £1,730 for the Great North Children’s Hospital Foundation through a sponsored haircut after donating their hair to the Little Princess Trust.
In 2019 Emily’s baby brother Charlie was rushed to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Great North Children’s Hospital with an undiagnosed hernia.
“If it wasn’t for the hospital and the NHS, I wouldn’t have a little brother” said Emily “I am so thankful for that. I liked doing the hair cut but I do miss my long hair!”
“We wanted to help any little girls who might not have any hair” said Phoebe. “I also wanted to look like a big girl and more grown up!”
Emily’s mum, Amy Gee added: “Thankfully Charlie is now two and a half and doing really well. The girls have received such amazing support from friends, family and even total strangers. I think people have been touched that amidst all that is going on with Covid, two six-year-olds could stop to think of others. We are all extremely proud of the girls and so glad to support such an amazing hospital.
“The care Charlie received on PICU and Ward 9 was second to none throughout. Not just from the consultants and nurses, but every single member of the team, the catering teams, the domestics, everyone there cares so much. In the most difficult time of our lives, they supported us like we were family.”
