A team of fundraisers have already smashed their £10,000 target for The Great North Children’s Hospital while completing challenges for a five-year-old girl being treated for a brain tumour.
Margot, who received the diagnosis in April 2024, is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the next 12 months.
Despite the devastation felt by her family, they have hailed the incredible care provided by staff on the neurological and oncology wards at the hospital.
The fundraisers are completing a range of challenges in ‘Miles for Margot’, such as, scaling the national three peaks this summer, running a 5k every day in July, and running the Great North Run 2024.
Despite reaching their £10k fundraising target, other challenges still to come include the Kielder Marathon and Margot’s Movement Marathon in October.
On the team’s JustGiving page, Margot’s Mum, Helen, said: “Margot has already been through so much and has had to show bravery in circumstances which no child should have to deal with.
“Her treatment will continue for the next year and we are at the beginning of a long and difficult road, which will test us in so many ways.”
But she expressed her gratitude to the staff saying: “We want to show our gratitude to these wonderful people by raising as much money as possible to support their incredible work.”
