Luke (L) and Nathan Outhwaite (R) are no strangers to fundraising, having completed many races (including the Great North Run), as well as hosting golf days to raise funds for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. They were inspired by their Uncle Kevin, who began fundraising for the Foundation during treatment for skin cancer. Sadly, Kevin passed away at just 36 years old in 2010. The family also lost Kevin’s Mother to bowel cancer, with this double tragedy spurring them on to make a difference.
Nathan and Luke’s Story
Nathan said: “My brother Luke and I will be running the Great North Run on 12th September 2021 to raise money for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation in memory of our Uncle Kevin who sadly passed away from a long battle with skin cancer, which he was diagnosed with just three weeks after his Mam died of bowel cancer.
After having five operations to remove ten tumours from his body, he became firm friends with the football legend Sir Bobby Robson. During his friendship with Sir Bobby he learnt about his Charity and decided he wanted to give something back. In doing this he started to raise money by organising charity events, raising £13,644.”
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is part of Newcastle Hospitals Charity, and is dedicated to finding more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
Since his death in 2010 family and friends have carried on Kevin’s charitable efforts through various events, raising more than £100,000.
