Newcastle Hospitals Charity supports initiatives focused on patient experience
A range of projects focused on patient experience are the latest to be supported by Newcastle Hospitals Charity.
The Charity, in collaboration with Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, secured funding from the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 grant scheme.
Colleagues across all teams and services have been working in new ways around the clock to keep hospitals and services running throughout the pandemic.
After discussion with colleagues on what would benefit staff the following projects are the latest to be supported.
- A hospital Carers’ Information and Advice Service which will be piloted in partnership with local voluntary organisations to support carers and people being cared for using our services.
- Additional training to support colleagues’ understanding and skills to work with people whose first language isn’t English.
- Equipment with British Sign Language video replay to improve remote communication with deaf patients
- Evaluation of lived experiences of groups disproportionally affected by COVID-19 and development of service improvements for them
Tracy Scott, head of patient experience at Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted that these projects are being supported by the Charity and thank the supporters who have made this possible.
“It is important to recognise the need to communicate differently with our patients during these extraordinary times. As we are working at a fast pace to transform how we deliver our services during the pandemic and the importance of engaging and involving our patients is central to this.”
