After a successful trial involving applications for less than £5,000, all applications to Newcastle Hospitals Charity should now be made using the Charity’s online application system (Smart Approve).
This is part of the Charity’s aspiration to make better, more effective, use of technology and systems in its grant-making, and to make things more efficient and straightforward for applicants, directorates, and the Charity team alike.
All grant applications should now be made using the online form; the Charity will no longer be accepting grant applications using Word application forms (though those that are already ‘in the system’ will not need to be resubmitted).
Some minor improvements have been made to the content of the application form, with one notable change being that applicants no longer need to gain Directorate Manager signatures before submitting their application – the system seeks approval from the appropriate Directorate Manager / Clinical Director.
Applications to the Charity can be made at any time, with decisions communicated as follows:
- Applications for amounts up to and including £5,000 will normally be approved or rejected within 28 days.
- It may take a little longer to get back to you about applications for amounts between £5,001 and £25,000.
- The Charity Committee meets every three months to consider applications for amounts of more than £25,000, with the next deadline being 9am on Tuesday 18 April 2022.
Applications can be for grants in support of enhancements to the patient experience and environment, initiatives that promote the health, wellbeing and professional development of the staff of Newcastle Hospitals, health-related clinical research and innovation, and/or partnerships that help tackle health inequalities and create healthier communities. If you’re not sure if your idea is suitable for charitable funding, please do contact the Charity team.
