Each runner who takes a Great North Run place is asked to raise £250 in sponsorship. It can seem daunting if it’s your first time fundraising so we have some top tips and ideas to get things started.
What’s your story?
You’ll automatically have an Enthuse fundraising page to collect donations. Make sure you personalise your page and share it with friends, family and work colleagues to encourage donations. When someone lands on your profile page, they may well know you, but they might not know much about our charity or what it means to you.
It doesn’t have to be long – just a little bit about why you are running for us and why it’s important to you. Profiles that have a personal story raise nearly twice as much as those that don’t.
Share updates
Whether it’s posting a run from Strava or sharing your latest running shoes, adding updates to your fundraising page is a great way to keep people in the loop. Your supporters will want to know how your training is going and what you’ve achieved so far. And don’t forget to post a picture with your medal after the run!
Get social
Make sure to share your fundraising page regularly on Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter) or LinkedIn. You never know who within your networks will be inspired to give.
Donate to yourself
A great way to get the ball rolling is donating to your own fundraising page. It shows everyone how committed you are and encourages others to support.
Why not donate the cost of a coffee or a pint that week?
£250 could help us to fund art workshops for young people within our hospitals.
Explore match funding
Check if your employer can boost your fundraising, lots of companies will support with match funding. Some might even double the amount you raise!
